5 Ways To Spring Clean Your Heart and Home

Do you see signs of spring where you are? In southern Ontario, Canada, even though I still see snow on the ground there are patches of grass, birds are chirping, warmer weather, and the sun is staying out longer.

It's a time of transition, it's not quite winter, but not yet spring. It's a time of new beginnings and renewal.

One of the things I love about spring is it's a beautiful reminder for a refreshing reset.

I'm not asking you to grab a bucket and mop and do a deep clean in every corner of your house, but here are 5 ways to Spring Clean Your Heart and Home.

1. Declutter Your Space:

  • Begin in key areas that make the most impact like your kitchen, closet, or kids toys.

  • Sort your items into 3 categories: keep, donate/discard, and "Time Will Time" bin (coined by The Minimal Mom).

  • Commit to 15-30 minutes a day to tackle your clutter, even 5 minutes can make a difference leading to significant progress over time.

  • Each item we own takes up real estate, so ask yourself if it is worth occupying your valuable space and have you used it in the last 90 days or 12 months?

(Removing these items makes room and energy for the things that matter to you and bring you joy.)

2. Reset Your Rhythm:

  • Review your calendar. Are there events wrapping up in the winter or new activities on the horizon for the upcoming season that require your attention? Make sure to leave white space for unpredictable events, spontaneous adventures, or simply for moments to unwind and relax.

  • Are there intentional changes you'd like to make with your daily schedule now that the sun stays up later (such as reducing screen time, more family walks or bike rides after dinner)?

  • For the next 3 months, make a seasonal family bucket list of things you want to do during spring (it can be free or budget-friendly activities,) such as looking for rainbows, a spring scavenger hunt, a family picnic, or visiting local attractions.

  • Restart those January healthy habits, consider what's not working and adjust. Use the momentum of the new season to try something new.

(By resetting your rhythm, your goal isn't perfection but progress for an intentional, harmonious life.)

3. Fill Up Your Cup:

  • Schedule "Me Time" by dedicating regular time to activities that bring you joy, give you energy, and calm your spirit, like praying and reading God’s Word, doing a fav hobby, or going to a local cafe with a friend. You deserve a break, and taking care of yourself benefits your family.

  • Give yourself the gift of grace and self-compassion. No mom is perfect, It's okay to have bad days, just like you teach your kids to forgive, allow the same forgiveness from Jesus to wash over you.

  • Reach out for help when feeling overwhelmed. Talking to friends or relying on family members are great ways to invite others in. However, sometimes, a coach or counsellor is needed for deeper healing. A support system is essential for maintaining your overall well-being in your heart and home.

(The more you fill up your cup regularly, you'll feel like a better mom, wife, homemaker, friend, etc.)

4. Refresh Your Home:

  • Use flowers and indoor plants to improve air quality and add colour. By bringing nature into your home it can breathe new life into your space, making it feel more inviting and uplifting.

  • Give your space a new look by rearranging furniture, or switching out decor items (maybe purchase a 1-2 new ones, of course after decluttering the ones you don't want to use.)

  • I know I said no deep cleaning, but consider focusing on just three often-overlooked areas each month. By doing this over the next few months, you'll be further along and less overwhelmed.

(Don't underestimate how even small changes can positively impact how you feel in your home.)

5. Reflect and Embrace New Beginnings:

  • Set aside time to review the past winter season. Write what you're celebrating, what you want to improve on, and what you’re thankful for.

  • Set new goals for yourself that align with your values. Focus on the small habits that'll help you become the woman you were created to be: faithfully alive and free.

  • Be open to new experiences and opportunities that may come your way. Trying something outside your comfort zone and embracing change can lead to exciting new directions.

(Every small, intentional step contributes to your transformative journey of growth and joy.)

Remember, change doesn't happen overnight, but with each small step, you create a brighter future for yourself and your family.

Having a harmonious environment, both in your heart and home, is possible.

Beautiful-Hearted Friend, let's embrace this opportunity to grow and commit to one small change today —whether it's spending 5 minutes in God’s Word, decluttering your closet, setting aside time for self-care, spending uninterrupted family time, or simply pausing to appreciate the little moments of joy.

Here’s to a refreshing and fulfilling spring cleaning journey with joy, grace, and ease.

Blessings and Joy,
